Studies on Resistance to Antibiotics
The discovery of gramicidin, penicillin, streptomycin, and the numerous other antibiotics known today has contributed materially to the list of therapeutic agents available against micro-organisms. However, the immediate enthusiasm which greeted their introduction has had to be checked by the realization that many of the important organisms affected readily develop resistance to the antibiotic ...
متن کاملStudies on the biosynthesis of antibiotics.
In the framework of studies on the biosynthesis of several antibiotics, specifically asukamycin, acarbose, reductiomycin, actinorhodin, and granaticin, a variety of different approaches to biosynthetic problems are illustrated. These include multiple labeling with stable isotopes in conjunction with modern methods of nmr analysis, as illustrated by the development of a new triple-quantum 2D-INA...
متن کاملAntibiotics targeting ribosomes: crystallographic studies.
Resistance to antibiotics is a major problem in modern therapeutics. Ribosomes, the cellular organelle catalyzing the translation of the genetic code into proteins, are targets for several clinically relevant antibiotics. The ribosomes from eubacteria are excellent pathogen models. High resolution structures of the large and small ribosomal subunits were used as references that allowed unambigu...
متن کاملStructural studies on new depsipeptide antibiotics, variapeptin and citropeptin.
Variapeptin and citropeptin were found as novel hexadepsipeptide antibiotics produced by Streptomyces variabilis and Streptomyces flavidovirens, respectively. Their structures were elucidated by NMR spectral analysis including a variety of 2D techniques. Variapeptin and citropeptin are structurally realted to azinothricin and A83586C, respectively.
متن کاملStudies on new antibiotics SF2415. II. The structural elucidation.
Structures of new antibiotics SF2415A1, A2, A3, B1, B2 and B3 were deduced from spectroscopic analyses and degradation studies. The structure of SF2415A3, which has the most antibacterial activity, was proposed to be 3,4a-dichloro-9-diazo-3,4, 4a,10a-tetrahydro-6-hydroxy-2,2,7-trimethyl-10a-[(E)-3,7-dimethyl- 2,6-octadienyl]-(2H,9H)naphtho-[2,3-b]pyran-5,8,10-trione. All of antibiotics SF2415 h...
